Every Saturday morning outside Barrie City Hall, the sounds of summer ring in the air as vendors from local shops and farms sell their goods.

For the first time this year, the market has taken over Mulcaster Street to offer up more space to people doing their weekly shopping. We found people were eager to eat fresh, organic food, but most importantly, support their locals.  Shops like Ripe Juicery, SoupHerb Soups and Nicholyn Farms are part of the weekly tradition.

Nicholyn Farms has been selling at the market for nearly 30 years and takes pride in offering the best organics they can grow. For Lynda, the Lyn in Nicholyn, it’s also about seeing the people.

There are some new faces too. Heritage Estates Winery and Cidery, offered samples to eager shoppers. A donut baker caught the eyes of our children and said they come to the market to build their clientele before opening their own shop.

The market prides itself on getting local produce from the many farms around the Barrie area, but most importantly, it’s  a chance to really feel the heartbeat of the community.
