Every year Centennial Beach in Barrie is transformed into MEC Paddlefest, an opportunity for people to try canoes, kayaks and stand up paddle boards for free! It’s a perfect opportunity to check out these popular water sports before purchasing one of them.

The organizers say they usually get 800 people annually and expected even more with the scorching we had on Father’s Day.  They weren’t kidding! Kempenfelt Bay was packed with paddlers with huge smiles.

Vendors from all over took part, helping people learn the basics of each of the paddle sports.  Most of those we spoke to said they were definitely picking up a kayak or two this summer.
