I started my Keto journey a few weeks back in an effort to break the cycle of yo-yo dieting and to drop the last 10 pounds. The other benefits intrigued me and I wanted to try it for myself! I started a four week program run by my naturopathic doctor, learning how to do Keto for women and how to do it in a healthy way.
I did well on the program but since then have gone off and on Keto, mostly due to weekends at the cottage and too much wine over the summer. Once you’re out of Keto it takes about four days to get back into ketosis so it’s not a simple ‘cheat’. This is probably why I haven’t noticed any weight loss, however, my skin, energy and overall digestion are significantly better! I’m also a lot kinder to myself when it comes to my diet.
In that regard, Keto has been a huge success! I’m not exactly where I want to be with my weight and diet but my mindset is slowly changing and I’m not as fixated on restricting calories and starving myself. In fact the best thing I’ve learned so far is when you’re hungry you need to feed yourself! It’s not about pushing it down or trying to avoid your hunger it’s about fueling your body in the right way.
The other thing I LOVE about Keto is that I can enjoy so much more than when I was restricting myself on other diets. Keto is truly a lifestyle and the variety is amazing! A quick google search can help you find a Keto recipe for just about any type of food.
Here are some of my favourites that help me stay on track! Let us know your Keto faves!
Bulletproof Coffee with butter and coconut oil
Cheese Shell Tacos with Avocado, Sour Cream and Ground Beef
Keto Vanilla Chia Pudding (made with coconut milk)
If you’re on keto you should be taking a few supplements to keep things in balance. No one wants to take a boat load of pills every morning but these few have definitely helped me. Of course everyone is different but this is what I take on a daily basis to keep myself feeling great.
Hopefully this helps you if you’re on Keto or thinking about trying it. The most important thing is that you give yourself time to learn about the diet, the food and your body!
